Mark 5:19
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

As Christians, God has hopefully placed in each of us a desire to share the gospel to others. Sometimes the task can feel overwhelming when we look at the world around us. There are just so many people who need to know Jesus. There are so many ways to share this. So many possible ministries, outreach programs, denominations, and organizations all working toward the same mission. Some think that they need a degree in theology or some other training to make a difference.  It’s hard to know where to start and how to go about it. Thankfully, Jesus made it very simple. Start at home and start with your own story.

This was expressed in the beginning of the 5th chapter of Mark. Jesus and his disciples crossed a sea through a storm to heal one man. This particular man was possessed by a legion of demons. He lived in the cemetery and had a reputation with his own people for being completely out of control. Once healed, the man wanted to leave with Jesus and follow along with the disciples. Jesus turns him down but gives the man clear instructions found in verse 19. Simply put, go home, and tell your story. That is exactly what the man did. We never get the man’s name, but we are told that he made an impact on the region with his story.

So, when we feel overwhelmed by all the possible ways to share the Gospel that is available to us today, we can just refer to the instructions that Jesus gave. Start at home. Start with your story. One of the best ways to make an impact for the Kingdom is to tell those closest to you about what Jesus has done in your life.
