Quite a Loud Party

June 5, 2023

2 Samuel 6:5
David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.

One of the great things about summer are all the community celebrations. Each one has its own significance.  Most celebrate some event of the past such as the founding of the town or a country.  Some celebrate local food of some sort.  In our area these include cheese, rhubarb, squash, and a host of others.

Nearly every celebration has three components: crowds, parades, and music.  In today’s Bible verse, King David and the Israelites are celebrating the return of the Ark of the Covenant. And there is quite a crowd.  Note that all Israel were celebrating with David.  And there was a parade.  In the same chapter we are told David gathered 30,000 men to help bring back the feature of this parade: the Ark of the Covenant. And of course, there was music.  Check out the instruments they used. Many of these instruments were loud. It must have been very loud since today’s verse says all Israel celebrated with all their might with many instruments.  What a parade that must have been!

As you celebrate your birthday, may it be a joyous occasion.  Celebrate the experiences you have had, and the blessings God has given to you.  May you celebrate with crowds of families and friends.  Perhaps have your own parade and some music.  As believers, we look forward to that great celebration to come at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb! That will be quite a party!
