Don’t Worry, Be happy
June 25, 2023
Worry is a form of fear and has its roots in pride. Pride means not trusting that the Lord will take care of you! Worry / Fear has been with us from the beginning since Adam and Eve sinned in the garden. Remember Adam’s response to God when He asked him why he was hiding? It was because “I was afraid”. In this context in Matthew 6:25 Jesus is instructing his disciple’s and us to not to worry about our needs and to put things in their proper perspective. In a way He is saying to them, see your life the way I see it from God the Fathers perspective. He is not saying don’t eat, don’t wear clothes, rather don’t worry about them in the light of His provision for you! The Disciples had faith to believe God for their salvation but not for His daily provision and care for them.
Too often many of us see ourselves in the light of who we think we are and how we see ourselves. We see ourselves as insignificant to God and ask ourselves why would he care about the mundane details of my life like what I would eat or wear? In this verse and the ones to follow in Mathew Jesus is challenging them to think and see themselves differently. That God the Father does care about the details of our lives. He sees us as valuable and loves us enough to die for us. He is our provider!! Further down in this chapter verse 27 states “can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? The obvious answer is no! Worrying gets us know where! The key in this chapter is verse 33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Are you in a constant state of worry? Jesus is calling you to see yourself as He sees you today! He is an alive and active God who cares and loves you. You are valuable to Him! He loves you. Put your trust in him today that He is going to take care of you. Pray and ask for the strength and wisdom you need. He is the prince of peace, and He will give you, His peace. Trust him daily and always seek his kingdom first and all these things will be given as well! Go to Him in prayer and see what God will do!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
