The Gift of Wisdom
August 11, 2023
If you’ve spent time on one of today’s social media platforms you’ve most likely come across one of the biggest video trends of the last couple of years. I am not 100% what they are called but for the sake of today’s reading, lets just call them did you know videos. Someone pops out with a DID YOU KNOW? and it’s usually followed with a fun, random, strange fact, or tips on how to accomplish something. If you’re like me and a child of the 80s you know that is essentially how every episode of GI Joe ended. The danger here is sometimes, these did you knows, turn out to be something foolish or outright dangerous.
In Proverbs 8:11 the immeasurable worth of wisdom is presented to us. Just as valuable treasures and precious jewels are sought after and cherished, so should wisdom be in our lives. Wisdom enriches us beyond material possessions, guiding our choices and actions. It opens doors to understanding, discernment, and a fruitful life. In seeking wisdom, we align ourselves with God’s purpose, for He is the source of all true wisdom. This wisdom is linked intrinsically to the character and nature of God. It’s also linked to the things that God cares deeply about. Justice, equity, mercy, righteousness, through reading Proverbs, all of these and more are linked and on display through the wisdom that God provides. Did you know that the writer of Proverbs also presents a cheap alternative for wisdom? Look at how Solomon describes wisdom and folly in Proverbs 9.
But for today as we pursue knowledge and insight, remember that wisdom is a gift that offers lasting rewards, both in this world and the next. It’s one that God gives freely to all who ask. Treasure it, nurture it, allow it to shape our character, so as we walk confidently on the path of righteousness, we reflect a little more of God’s goodness! Wisdom will always outweigh folly, and now you know…
