John 8:31
Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.

Jesus was always teaching and discipling his followers. Jesus’ Word is His teachings. If you know them and keep them, you are “truly saved.” So, if you know, you know. If you look back at verse 30 you will see where and why this discourse is taking place. He was telling them that you will know for sure when I am crucified that I am under the authority of my Father. Jesus was going to please His Father in all things even unto death. Jesus was talking to those who believe, yet do not believe. They maybe thought what Jesus was saying was true but not yet ready to say yes to follow Him. This is not a good place to be, if you hear the truth and believe the truth you must place your total faith in it or you’re not truly His disciple. Jesus says, “If you abide in my Word, you are truly my disciples.” According to the dictionary “abide” means to remain, continue, stay, dwell, reside, endure, sustain, and yield. So, what is Jesus telling them? Let me break down verse 31: “If you”, those who have believed, not those who haven’t made the step of faith, “abide in my Word”, then, not until then, “are you really His disciples. Verse 32 is the result of placing your faith in Jesus and allowing Him to be your savior and the Lord of your life. What are you free from? Slavery of sin, death, pride, hate, prejudice, emptiness, loneliness, bitterness, to name a few benefits. If you know, you know. Look at verse 33 and the response from the religious leaders, they were in a sense saying, “thanks but no thanks, we’re good”. We don’t need to be free we are already free. These religious leaders said, “they have never been enslaved to anyone.” I found this odd because the Jewish nation had been enslaved in Egypt, Babylon, and currently Rome to name a few. By the way there is a good chance there was some Romans soldiers looking on when this was falsely stated. They questioned Jesus, they didn’t want to accept the Truth He was proclaiming to them. Today there are some who can hear or read this story and you still question Jesus. Instead of questioning Jesus you should be putting full allegiance and faith in His Word to set you free from the bondage of sin. Today is the perfect day for you to yes to Jesus.

Here is why…Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, nobody comes to the Father except though me.”
