The Perfect Sacrifice

This blood is the blood of the Son of God; and not the blood of sacrificed animals, which was a type of Christ in his sufferings, typically sanctified to the purifying of men externally. The Old Testament sacrifices were not useless, and they did serve a purpose and in a ceremonial way, they served as symbols of Jesus’ future ministry and were able to provide a measure of purity. But this could never permanently change the inner nature of a man. So as the text states, how much more is the blood of Christ, to cleanse the soul inwardly. Christ willingly offered himself up as an expression of his great love toward mankind! He offered his life as the full ransom price for the sin of the world! He was the perfect sacrifice without any moral blemish! His Sacrifice cleanses our consciences from acts that lead to death (sin). As we who are Christ followers, we are cleansed both outwardly and inwardly through His blood. We put our hope and faith in Him, and we are freed from the slavery of sin and are enabled to work the works of righteousness and do good works through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is my prayer that we never minimize the incredible sacrifice that Jesus made on our account and the power that the blood of Christ has in the lives of all who put their trust in Him for their salvation. Let us remind ourselves today that it is because of Christ Jesus and his sacrifice that we sinners might be declared righteous in God’s sight.
