Our Caring Defender

Psalm 68:3-6
3 But let the righteous be glad. Let them rejoice before God. Yes, let them rejoice with gladness. 4 Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Extol him who rides on the clouds: to Yah, his name! Rejoice before him! 5 A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. 6 God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

Our God is seated on His throne in Heaven, but He is also near to the brokenhearted on earth. He cares for those in need and defends those whom society cancels and casts off. Our God is a God of justice. In a patriarchal society such as existed when this Psalm was written, the death of a husband or father was devastating to the future well-being of his wife and children. They were left both helpless and hopeless until…Until they turned to the one true and living God in whom was both help for today and bright hope for tomorrow. Remember this: when you are lost or lonely, God cares for you. “Our God sets the lonely in families!” (Psalm 68:6).
