Invisible Warfare

October 3, 2023

2 Corinthians 10:3
For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh;

What makes life so tough for a believer that chooses to please God is the invisible spiritual attacks they experience.  You could say that these attacks blindside every believer, so they never know where another attack is coming from.  This invisible spiritual battle is really a war.  A war between God and Satan.  A war in which we are in the center.  It is a war that most Bible scholars call the Angelic Conflict.  This conflict between God and Satan began long ago, but our part began in the garden of Eden when Lucifer successfully got Adam and Eve to sin.  We now aptly call him “Satan” which means “adversary”.  He will do everything in his power to hurt us in some way.  So, without help this ancient creature who knows human nature will beat us every time.  This is a statistical fact.

So, what hope do I bring to you today?  Well, God certainly did not leave us hopeless and helpless.  He left us the Holy Spirit, the Helper. to guide us in all things.  Then He gave us His written Word so that we have ammunition in order to fight back against the Evil One.  In His Word, we have the rest of what we need so we can fight this war.  Without God’s word, we are like a soldier who enters a dangerous battle without a sword and shield.  That soldier will die rather quickly.  Don’t read and study God’s Word because it is your Christian duty or an obligation.  Of course, some days we must push through and read even when we don’t feel like it, and there will be those days!!!  Read and study God’s Word because it is your way of protecting yourself and your family.  You will find that when you know God’s Word, you no longer get blindsided by Satan.  You are prepared for the day’s battle, and there will be battles, even with your own flesh.

Paul aptly put it this way, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert…” (Eph. 6:10-18a)
