The Just Justifier

March 25, 2024

Romans 3:25-26
25 whom God sent to be an atoning sacrifice, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God’s forbearance; 26 to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.

What if God had swept our sin under the rug and never dealt with it? He would be unjust for leaving sin unjudged. But providing His own righteousness enables Him to be both just and the one who justifies us. This is what Paul means in Romans 3:25-26 by saying that God is both “just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” He didn’t sweep our sins away but shed His blood for our sins on the cross. The sacrificial atonement of Jesus is overwhelming, but by faith, it is not out of reach.
