God’s Jealousy

April 24, 2024

Deuteronomy 4:24
For Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

Growing up in a large family has its challenges, especially at dinnertime. When someone had a larger helping of mashed potatoes than you, you’d let em have it. That’s a good definition of jealousy from a human perspective. However, it is way off base when it comes to God being jealous. You see, God is jealous when we give to another, something that rightly belongs to Him. In Deuteronomy 4:24, Moses reminds the people of Israel that they are not to share their allegiance with other gods. God is rightly jealous when our worship, praise, honor, and adoration are diverted away from Him and given to idols. What idols do you have?
