God’s Word for Mercy

June 4, 2024

Psalms 6:4
Return, Yahweh. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake.

If you seek to understand one word from the original Hebrew language, let it be “chesed”—God’s “chesed” love. This type of love is used to describe God’s faithful, covenant love here in Psalm 6:4 and Psalm 40:10, 57:3, and throughout the Old Testament. God’s “chesed” love, His love for you, is a faithful love. It is patient love. It is a profoundly significant and wholly loyal love. God’s love is loyal to us even when we are anything but faithful to Him. This is God’s mercy… our God loves us lavishly even when we fall well short of His glory.
