God’s Attributes – Holy
June 6, 2025
In 2 Samuel 6 we read of King David’s attempt to move the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. He enlisted the help of 30,000 men (vs 1). One of those men chosen to carry the Ark was Uzzah. Instead of carrying it as God had instructed they placed the Ark on a cart and it didn’t go well. Watching the ark tumble toward the ground, Uzzah’s instinct that the ground would desecrate it was appropriate. Holy things do not belong in the dirt. His error was thinking that he was any holier than the dirt. A sinful man would desecrate the ark just as much as the ground. The holiness of the ark did not need to be protected by Uzzah. Uzzah needed to be protected from what holiness does to unclean things. Sinful men need a mediator before a holy God. Otherwise, God’s holiness will be a consuming fire. Praise God for providing this mediator in Christ, a perfect high priest (Hebrews 6) whose perfect sacrifice allows us to be declared sinless before God.
