It’s a Spirit Thing

What is one of the best birthday gifts you ever received?  Over the course of many birthdays there is one thing in particular that stands out to me.  On my golden birthday my parents gave me a bike.  Not just any bike. This is significant since I lived in hand-me-down clothes…It was a new bike. Not only was it a new bike but it had a banana seat and high-rise stingray handlebars. How I hooted and hollered at getting such a gift.

When we are born again, we receive many things from our Heavenly Father. Among them are the promise of eternal life and many other blessings.  One of those blessings is the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit works in our lives in many different ways.  The Newsboys song “Spirit Thing” has a few lines that say it better than I can:

It’s just a Spirit thing
It’s just a holy nudge
It’s like a circuit charge in the brain

It’s just a Spirit thing
It’s here to guard my heart
It’s just a little hard to explain

It pushes when I quit
It smells a counterfeit
Sometimes it works a bit like a teleprompter

This gift of the Holy Spirit enables us to live lives we are otherwise not able to do.  No longer are we chained to our fleshly desires; we are now free to do as the Spirit desires.  It is always looking out for our best interest.  What a great gift!
