Suspenseful?
October 24, 2025
When was the last time you were held in suspense of something? You tried your best to figure it out or try to believe and understand it. But no matter what you just couldn’t figure it out and you had to know. This is what was happening in John 10:24 to those who had heard the message but really were not sure who Jesus was. This was happening at the time of the “Feast of Celebration” (v.22) which is about the same time of year as the Christian Christmas celebration. This conversation is following the story of the “Good Shepherd.” The Jewish leaders were in suspense about who this man Jesus was. They were face to face with the Messiah and were having a hard time believing His claim that He was the Son of God. They were denying Jesus as the Son of God, but the suspense was keeping their attention. Jesus goes on to tell them why they didn’t believe he was the Messiah. He said in verse 26, “you don’t believe because you are not one of my sheep. Then in the following verse, 27-30 we see the guarantee from the Lord that those who believe will forever be protected by the hand of God. A good shepherd never loses a sheep, and he protects them day and night. We can have eternal security found in verse 28 because of what Jesus said in verse 11. However, it’s your birthday, or you may just be scrolling through these devotionals, and God wants you to place your faith in Jesus so you can have your sins forgiven and enter the Kingdom of God with eternal security. If you have already placed your faith in Jesus, I hope this is encouraging to you in that we have Hope with confidence and not hope that is suspenseful. Happy Birthday, God Loves You and has a purpose for you, God Bless You.
