What is Faith?
November 1, 2025
Have you ever heard someone say you just need some faith, but what does it even mean? Hebrews 11:1 puts it nicely. “Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction (proof) of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. I love this verse. This is the bible defining faith for us. It comes from something we do not see, a conviction in something we believe in the utmost. A conviction, something we know will happen, in the thing that we believe in that we do not see. We believe in God. We know He is God, and we can do that by faith. The chapter of Hebrews 11 is full of faith stories of so many different people in the Bible, it is nicknamed the hall of faith. It talks about the faith they have in God for the things they were convinced in and most of them did not ever see it fully happen. Yet, they still had faith that God would do what He promised to his people. There are many stories of faith out there and just knowing that God will do what He promises to you and that He leads us to do what He wants us to do. God is so good; we just need to have that assurance of the things hoped for and a conviction of things not seen. God will do it, if that is what he wants to do. We just need to have some faith – “an assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen”.
