No Risk, No Reward

By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went. (Heb 11:8)
Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and proof of things not seen. (Heb 11:1)
With faith there always comes an element of risk. It requires us to take action when we aren’t sure of the outcome. We are a missionary family and faith plays a huge role in our lives. We needed faith to leave our jobs, sell our belongings, and leave our home to serve in another country. We needed faith to ask for support before we even knew where we were going to serve. Now that we are in the field, we have faith that God will provide for our needs and protect us. Many people who knew us thought that we were taking a big risk in the decisions we made to follow God’s calling. I shudder to think what our lives would have been like if we had played it safe and not acted on faith.
I am thankful that God has given us examples like Abraham mentioned in Hebrews 11:8. He left his home not knowing where he was going, he trusted God to give him a son despite his age, and even agreed to sacrifice that son on faith that God would provide another way. All those decisions carried a ton of risk and required a ton of faith.
The best part is that God does not disappoint. With all that risk, God came through with the reward. He blessed Abraham with land, provision, and built a nation of people from the very son he was willing to give as a sacrifice. In our case, God provided us with a home and a community in need where we could serve. He continues to care for our family as we follow His will in faith. When we put our faith in Jesus, it will continue to grow as God rewards every risk we take to His glory. As you enjoy your special day, I pray that you put your faith in the One who always comes through. Jesus is worth the risk. The Reward is greater than we can imagine. God Bless.
