2 Paths

A choice. God has given us a choice. Two paths diverging, each one leading

their own direction.

This is exactly where Israel found themselves in this chapter of

Deuteronomy. Before them lies the road leading to the Promised Land.

God’s grace is already sustaining them but ahead lay His unending

blessings of peace, land, and hope in their future. And as God beckons

them towards this promise He calls on them to obedience. To submit to

His will, His commands, and His love. To put to death their own

selfish ways and trust His leading. The choice offered to them is

obedience with blessings or, as spoken in the verse, rejection of His

commands and to become accursed.

We too have this decision to make. With God before us and His

salvation offered on the cross we are confronted with the question.

Will we lay down our ways, our “gods”, and our sins to come to Him in

obedience? Will we submit to Christ’s sacrifice allowing the Spirit to

radically change our lives. Or are we rejecting Him? Do we spurn His

gift to demand our own ways, to relish in our sins, or passively

reject His direction?

Ahead of us lies the grandeur of the Lord and His loving hands. Let’s

humbly come before Him accepting His lordship. The pathway leading to

God’s curse is wide and easily accessible, however, the escape in

turning to Him through obedience to Christ has been made available to

all.
