Pass It Down

Exodus 12:26 recounts a watershed moment in the history of the Israelites during Passover. It says, “And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?'”

It is important to pass down faith from one generation to the next. The act of remembering and explaining the significance of rituals is a powerful way to ensure that the faith journey is woven into the fabric of a family’s identity.

In our lives we can draw inspiration from this verse by considering how we communicate the stories of God’s faithfulness to our children and those around us. Each of us has a unique narrative of God’s intervention, grace, and guidance. Taking time to share these experiences not only strengthens our own faith but also serves as a foundation for others to build their trust in God.

Consider the question posed in the verse: “What does this ceremony mean to you?” Take a moment to reflect on your faith journey, the ceremonies or practices that hold personal significance, and how you can articulate the impact of God’s work in your life to the next generation. This is especially true during this season. As we celebrate the birth of Christ and we head into a new year, let your story be a beacon of hope and a testament to God’s enduring love.
