The Lord is One

Loving God is and should be for every believer the ruling principle in our lives! Loving God with all our hearts! The answer Jesus gives in this verse to the question from one of the teachers of the law of which commandment was the most important? The Lord is one! He is to be preeminent in our lives and have no other Gods before Him! There are many things in our lives that at times take the place in our hearts before the Lord. We can even come to the point where we love other things or people more than Him. Notice that Jesus said “Hear, O Israel!” first! He does not start with Loving God and then others in Verse 30, but with the words “hear!”. It is that first we must hear and then understand and accept that the Lord is our God, and the Lord is one! It is his desire for us to put Him first in our lives! Look and evaluate yourself today. What are some things that you have put in priority before the Lord? Put him back on the throne of your heart today! Ask Him to reveal to you things you have allowed to creep in and take the place of Him in your life. Traditionally the Jews would recite this twice a day and it would be of a good habit to the follower of Jesus to remind ourselves who is the Lord and that we shall not follow any other God or have any other Gods before him. Put Him first in all you do! Make Him the ONE in your life!
