The previous verses start out with a reminder of Lois(grandmother) and Eunice (mother) and their sound faith which makes Timothy a 3rd generation Christian standing strong in that faith. My husband and I have both been raised in Godly homes and our Christian faith goes back many generations. We often speak of what an amazing thing that is and how blessed we are for that. But you know it doesn’t matter how many generations of faith we can count back, it’s still our present-day choice to choose faith. It’s still our individual choice to choose salvation. 2 Timothy 1:7 is still a personal verse. We cannot be timid; we need to stand on the Word of God ourselves. It’s His Spirit that gives us power, love and discipline or self-control. We are each given a very specific calling on our life and it’s our responsibility to live our lives for His Glory. Today is your special day and I pray that you realize that God has made you specifically special. You are the only one with your life calling so don’t be timid or afraid. Ask God to fill you with His Spirit then you can stand in His power, strength, and sound mind. Go and be the best you and give God all the glory He deserves!
