“Take My Hand “ – Jesus

January 23, 2026

Proverbs 1:24
Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;

There is a particularly famous illustration I would presume regarding obedience to the word of God. It seems we like to use the idea of a GPS guiding our way to an unfamiliar location, so we do not get lost. I personally believe this is used so frequently because it is spot on with how we live our lives. We only pull out the GPS when we need it because we do not know where we are going but on the other hand, when we are familiar with the route the GPS is rendered useless to us.

What a reminder of how fast we can forget God. We can know His words, follow them even, and then before long get so comfortable we lose sight of His direction and guidance and go along using our own directions. This Proverb is trying to get us to understand there is never a time we should be so comfortable with our own knowledge we should forget to use God’s. God desires us to let Him lead us, to let Him pull us up when the waves begin to crash over us. How prideful do we have to be to think that we can do it ourselves, with no help? How arrogant are we to think we do not need the help of the one who created the universe, who set the world in motion, who holds our very being together and knew us before we were in our mother’s womb?

I know I have done this in my life, but I am tired of ending up begging God to reach His hand back out instead of taking it when it is offered. I challenge you to take God’s outstretched hand the first time instead of having to ask Him to reach it back out. Be obedient when you are called so you do not have to endure the misery that pride can bring. Will you choose to grab His hand, or try to do it yourself today?
