YHWH

Psalms 8:1
Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!

(Editor’s note – this devotional is longer than usual due to the large amount of Scripture)

Happy birthday! If August 1st is your birthday, you have some amazing verses to read / study / memorize. Some powerful messages from Yahweh / Jehovah (YHWH is the actual name of the triune God which is too sacred to pronounce) It is fun writing these devotionals because I get to review all the available verses for a particular day and decide which verse to utilize for that day’s devotional. As I was prepping for August 1st a major theme materialized and became so obvious, I could not ignore it. Read along with me (26 out of 38 of today’s Birthday Bible verses) and let’s discover what God may be trying to tell us.

Old Testament

Genesis 8:1God remembered Noah …

Exodus 8:1Yahweh spoke to Moses, Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, “This is what Yahweh says, ‘Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Leviticus 8:1 – “Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,”

Numbers 8:1“Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,”

Deuteronomy 8:1 – “You shall observe to do all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers.”

Joshua 8:1Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed….”

1 Kings 8:1 – Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ [houses] of the children of Israel, to king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh out of the city of David, which is Zion.”              (the ark contained the very Glory of God)

2 Kings 8:1 – Now Elisha had spoken to the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It shall also come on the land seven years.””

2 Chronicles 8:1– It happened at the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the house of Yahweh, and his own house,

Nehemiah 8:1 – All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Yahweh had commanded to Israel.

Esther 8:1 – On that day, King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the Jews’ enemy, to Esther the queen. Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her.             (The name of God is never mentioned in Esther. This is a summary of what God accomplished through Esther & Mordecai)

Psalms 8:1Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth, who has set your glory above the heavens!

Isaiah 8:1Yahweh said to me, “Take a large tablet, and write on it with a man’s pen, ‘For Maher Shalal Hash Baz;’”

Jeremiah 8:1 – “At that time, says Yahweh,….

Ezekiel 8:1 – ….that the hand of the Lord Yahweh fell there on me.

Daniel 8:1 – “In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel,….

Hosea 8:1 – ”Put the trumpet to your lips! Something like an eagle is over Yahweh’s house, because they have broken my covenant, and rebelled against my law.”

Amos 8:1Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit.”

Zechariah 8:1The word of Yahweh of Armies came to me.

New Testament

Matthew 8:1 – When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.

Mark 8:1 – In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,

Luke 8:1 – It happened soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the Kingdom of God. With him were the twelve,

John 8:1 – but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.   (The Mount of Olives is quite significant throughout Scripture and will be where Jesus comes back to fight the battle of Armageddon)

Romans 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Hebrews 8:1 – Now in the things which we are saying, the main point is this. We have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

Revelation 8:1 – When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

The name of God (YHWH) is too sacred to speak and leaves us with a sense of awe. As I read these verses repeatedly, I am left speechless and bewildered. Psalm 8:1 is a perfect summary of all these verses.  My only reaction can be like Isaiah 6:5 – “Then I said, “Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell among a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, Yahweh of Armies!”

Any attempt at explaining all these verses lined up in perfect symmetry could never be adequate.  I do offer one thought – in Revelation “the silence in heaven” was due to the upcoming massively destructive judgements of God. We have access to the literal Word of God (YHWH). He has communicated His thoughts very clearly. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT until it is too late to hear from Him.

2 Cor 6:2for he says, “At an acceptable time I listened to you. In a day of salvation I helped you.”  Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.
