Rocky Farming

August 6, 2023

Luke 8:6
Other seed fell on the rock, and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture.

We live in a predominantly farming community. Jesus used so many farming examples in His teachings. It’s a natural way of life that people want to eat – which I think we all really enjoy! Farming is like so many other ways of living. Everything in season like it says in Ecclesiastes 3. In August a farmer in the northeast would not just be putting in a new crop. It would burn out before it could produce any food product! I realize that Luke 8:6 is probably about farming but let’s look at another aspect. What about our spiritual lives? How many of us get saved and go crazy trying to change ourselves and the world around us. How many burnout because we don’t study the Word and learn of His ways? We all need to drink milk before we eat meat – physically and spiritually. Or we go to a church service that just touches our lives and we want to run out the door and make those changes before we stop and ask God to guide us. Please don’t misunderstand me here! Big Ideas are great and changing ourselves and our world are fantastic concepts. But we need to get our roots grounded and strong before we can begin to bear fruit. God knows all things and will convict us when it’s time for our season to plant, bloom, and harvest. God is not hindered by climate seasons – God wants to be allowed to change our lives and our world. To God be all the glory!!
